Viewing Post for: Kilimanjaro Climb 2012

Date: February 20, 2012
Location: Barfu Camp heading to Mweka

Sending this as a post summit post so not sure where we will camp yet, either Millenium 12,500 or Mweka, 10,500.

Summit climb. It was a windy cold start. Many were not feeling well. If you can feel any closer to heavens I don’t know how. So many stars, climbing in silence. The africans singing gently in Swahili when you can’t go farther. You go on. Endless night and the glow of the curve of the earth at sunrise. The glacier glowing next to you, some are wobbly, exhausted hugs, some tears, descending fast what took 7 hours to go 1.5 miles up down in 2 hours. Relief, stunned.

Those who made it to Uhuru peak, 19,340 Everyone except below.

Those who topped the summit ridge just a little before that at 18,900 Pete: Hoffmaan

Those who made it to 15,800: Mary Ann, Dara

For: Lisa and all including the PPS folks

Congratulations! And thank you all for facilitating the communications via the web, blog, audios. It made us feel close behind you as you journeyed and connected us all to you all. Lisa, you make the mountains I need to climb seem so small. If you can do this....I can surely climb mine. Love you and can't wait to see you 'intact'....(in our world of picking out a puppy right now that means 'not neutered')! Seriously, thank you to all involved and CHEERS!

Also, today Jordan was watching the Yankees Game 7 from last year on the DVR looking for you! I thought it was cute:) Miss you Jenny

500 words is not enough for me to express how I feel about my sister Lisa. She faces adversity and challenge head on. She may show a little fear at first, but it is quickly eclipsed by the shadow that is cast by her determination and intrepid spirit. Is he still with you all, or did he go on ahead? ;-) I posted a message yesterday before the summit push, but it never showed up on the message page. Oh well. It's tough not to let the millions of stars distract you from the watching the trail ahead. Reminds me of Psalm 19:1: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." Congratulations, Bob for making it to the top of Afric
