Explore the exciting Petawawa Algonquin river by packraft. Class 3 rapids and portages. We will go in early spring before the bugs and during high water. This trip is an exciting 50 km, 4 day run from Lake Travers down to McManus Lake. Many consider Algonquin Park the jewel in Ontario's crown. It is indeed a magnificent destination, and for paddlers it offers an almost unlimited myriad of opportunities for adventure. The Petawawa River is the prime Algonquin river trip, especially during the shoulder seasons of spring. Packrafts will give us a chance to explore this river and challenge its rapids with greater security and lighter travel than a canoe.

This section of river incorporates about fourteen rapids varying from class 1 to class 4, the most impressive being Rollaway Rapids, an 800m class 3/4,(we may walk the class 4) and then Crooked Chute, a class 4 chute immediately followed by a tough class 3 during spring water levels. Several other exciting “big water” class 3 runs await in this section too, such as Little Thompson and Natch. Total river distance is 30 miles, so we will have short days of paddling, making for a leisurely trip. We may run some of the rapids for fun if camping nearby. Fall training for packrafting. Limit of 3.
