DESCRIPTION:
Experience the idyllic British countryside for yourself as we follow
the historic routes of canals and footpaths, spending our nights aboard
a cozy canal narrowboat. You pick the distance that you will walk
each day! The canal path follows the water so you can get on and off
the boat to walk various distances, or ride on the boat, or even take
a turn at being captain! We will learn how to hand operate locks.
If you are looking for a unique way to experience the charms, buildings,
landscape and people of England, then join this adventure that harkens
back to another time in history. Narrow boats are designed to carry
people or historically goods on a boat that is 7 feet wide by 70 feet
long. Packed into this interesting vessel are dining and cooking facilities,
2 bathrooms with showers and several separate sleeping rooms. You
will have the option of being captain of your ship as you steer from
the helm. Speed boat aficionados need not apply as top speed is about
4.5mph. This pace allows us to walk, view and explore the pastoral
river Wey and the famous Thames River. You can walk as much or as
little as you want and when you need a break, lunch, or snack, the
boat is never far away. Your out and back route starts from Guilford,
just south of London, where we can tour a castle, cathedral and shop
quaint stores. We head north on a pastoral route along the River Wey
and then head east once we encounter the Thames River. Our turn around
point will be near Hampton Court which we will tour. You will have
7 nights aboard the boat and a final 2 nights in a comfortable hotel
near London. While on board boat we will walk the tow path that follows
the waterways. A final day of sightseeing or shopping will complete
the adventure. We will eat breakfast and lunches on our floating picnic
vessel and enjoy dinner in a variety of pubs and restaurants. We will
fly into Heathrow as a group if you wish or you can meet us at the
airport if you plan to extend your vacation. (Probable dates that
may move one day depending on boat availility.)
