Viewing Post for: Everest Base Camp 2010

Date: November 11
Location: Dingboche, 14,200 ft.

Our current location is 7456 miles in a straight line from home.

In the picture are noble trekkers Paul and Alison on this side of Everest, Lhotse in the foreground.

Dear diary:

Esther left us for Tom today. They will be adding to the blog themselves so please keep sending them messages. The deep dust on the trail today has been stirred over the years by Hillary and every climber since. Even before them, the dust was stirred 600 years ago by the Lama who started Pangboche monastery. The old monastery which we visited, is too often passed by the hundreds of trekkers struggling toward Everest. History, legends, and myths swirl around us like the afternoon clouds which come and cover the peaks and glaciers.

The 3000 fo0t drop off along the am trail, reminded us of our friend and cancer climber Linda #1.

I like the comment about the duct tape. We might have to start using that on you around here. Please thank the person that came up with that idea. Hope everything is well, we are all thinking about you and see you soon!

Hi Paul! We miss you verrry much! Emily and Tessa have taken good care of us while you are gone! We are growing up fast and the weather is getting colder :( The dog house has been a challenge for us. None of us can get up there yet. The Ladies are doing well too, but they don't miss you as much as we do!! Can't wait until you come back! P.S. Are there any mountain goats up there??

I love seeing the pictures w the buffs! I copy each day & show them to all my quilt friends. Talked to Mom. She feels better than she has in weeks. She sounds good too. Oh yeah, she's worried about you. She asked me what a Yak is. Jesse has been in touch & she liked that. Frank takes her copies of each day so she is posted. We all love & miss you. Hi to Alison too!

Heard you were dealing with a cold. Hope you're feeling better. What you and all the climbers are doing is a pretty awesome thing! Keep on trekking, one step at a time. Sending you energy vibes and lots of love! (There aren't many grandchildren that are going to be able to brag that their grandmother hiked both Kili and Everest! What a feat!)

For: All my peeps

Today is Veterans Day. I am so very thankful for all of our soldiers who have fought and are currently fighting to protect our way of life. I am also thankful for each of you soldiers in the fight against this stinking cancer. You are veterans of a different war, but have my love and respect always. I am so proud to be a part of the JOI family.

For: Matt n Pat

Sheila's surgery went well and She is recouperating. I had dinner with them tonight - Connor is beautiful and Mollie and Pat are well too. I think of Pat when I hear news about Rochester and I want to call him and get the inside story. Then I hear the traffic report and worry about Matt's commute only to remember that you're climbing mts - not on 390 or in the city. I love you both and can't wait for your safe return! I imagine we'll have some great photos to see at Thanksgiving!

Hello friends! So my toilet is broken, and I thought of how ironic it is that I am here with indoor plumbing, yet I am going to have to start bathrooming in a similar fashion to you EBC'ers! Super fun. Sending positivity, support, and love.. be safe, stay warm, and keep on truckin'!

From Robin: Love your updates. So happy you're doing so well! Went by Piermont today past the Tappan Zee ("The Tippy Tippy Bridge") and thought of you. From Annalie: I love you daddy very much. I miss you very much. What did the light say to the lamp? You're ba-BIG!

We are thinking of you and hoping you have some wonderful serendipitous events that make all the challenges worth it! Soak up some oxygen and then be open to some amazing adventures of a unique kind. We can't wait to hear from you!!!

Indian summer arrived today for Veteran's Day! Celebrated Kim for her bday and then made the fall pilgrimidge with the girls to Naples for grape pie - yes we are fighting our lonliness with sweets -I'm sure we'll loose 10 lbs upon your return! Lots of geese migrating now and almost all the leaves are down. Daylight savings time has us off to work and home from work in the dark so a sunny day like today is amazing. We are proud of what you all are doing!!Keep on keeping on!!!We send you prayers

How did Paul get out of the duct tape? Nicky and I ran 5km to the beach and back today (woohoo) - probably too much oxygen for you guys to be comfortable now. Cheers and courage in the footsteps of Hillary and Tenzing!

I know you are all climbing for all those inflicted with cancer - for friends, family and for those you don't even know. I know you are climbing for me. I struggle with the words to thank all of you for your courage and determination. You are truly an inspiration to me. Stay strong, warm and healthy. All my love, Karen.

We were up on that mountain in the background before 10a today, skirted over to Everest to have tea and then on to Nuptse..we have to get up to Kangchangunga for a coffee klatch/meeting at 1p and then of course Scott has to get to the Loj for his "sitting" duties and then on to Annapurna for the sunrise. You may have missed us the many times we walked with yu but we were there-helping.We bring you love and air.
