DESCRIPTION:
If Alaska is on your list of dream vacations but you are not a cruise fan or not ready to carry a heavy backpack for a week, then it is time to make your dream a reality. We have put together a trip that features day hikes and a few tours so you can view the panorama of the Denali Range, see fantastic glaciers, wildlife, flowering alpine meadows, wild tundra and enjoy interesting wilderness hiking all from the nightly comfort of cabins or motels. If you like to hike during the day, but prefer to have sheets and showers at night, then join us.

This nine day trip will meet in Anchorage, Alaska, where we will spend the first few nights. From here we will do hikes both north and south of the city in the Chugach Mountains. These hikes will feature views of the Cook Inlet, Turnagain Arm and Knik Arm. Bring plenty of film because every way you turn will seem to require another photo. You will see the volcanic islands stringing off to the horizon. These early hikes will allow us to sample the unlimited hikes close to Anchorage before we head north to spend a few days based in Wasilla. This area's day hikes will highlight views from ridge walks that showcase the Denali Range. We will end the trip with a drive to Seward, a small city located at the edge of Kenai Fjords National Park. We will have a chance for some short walks and take a 1/2 day tour of the bay. Here you will see the vast array of sea life in the bay. We will finish in Anchorage for our last night.

Hike distances will vary, but we will plan to walk for 4-6 hours on full day hikes and 2-4 hours for half-day hikes. You will have options to rest or do shorter hikes as well. Lodging will be principally comfortable cabins with shared bathrooms with hot showers and 2 people to a bedroom. All food except 3 dinners is included in the trip cost. We will start the day with delicious breakfasts, enjoy picnic style lunches and cook hearty dinners. All ground transportation is included in the price. We will use vans to transport the group while in Alaska. Group size is limited to a very small 10-person group.

Optional Denali Extension - Monday, July 21st to Saturday, July 26th. Here is your chance to get up close to North America's highest peak (20,320 ft.) Long before prospector William A. Dickey named it Mt. McKinley, the mountain was dubbed Denali, meaning " the High One," by the regional Athabascan Indians. No matter what name you call it the mountain and its surrounding 6 million acre park are breathtaking. While wandering in this sub-arctic eco-system you are sure to see at least one of the 39 mammals that call the park home, including moose, Dall sheep, caribou, wolves and grizzlies. If that isn't enough wildlife you can catch a sled dog demonstration at the park kennels.
